End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating MJ Hegar on winning the Democratic primary runoff for the Texas Senate race:
“Congratulations to MJ Hegar on advancing to the general election. MJ is rejecting corporate PAC money and building a people-powered movement to take on Senator John Cornyn and Big Money special interests in Washington. As a pawn of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Cornyn has been a strong ally of corporate special interests in Congress since he got to the Senate, from taking over $10.5 million in corporate PAC money to accepting $4.6 million from Wall Street. MJ Hegar will be an accountable and transparent leader in the Senate, and we look forward to helping her win.”
End Citizens United endorsed MJ Hegar in May of 2019 because of her commitment to fight corruption and making Washington work for Texans. Hegar, who rejects donations from corporate PACs, is running a grassroots campaign powered by small-dollar donors.
In January, End Citizens United Action Fund released its first annual legislative scorecard that tracked and graded the efforts of every member of Congress on money in politics and government reform issues. Senator John Cornyn received an “F” for failing to support common sense legislation that roots out corruption, increases transparency, and strengthens ethics in government.
