End Citizens United and Let America Vote Congratulate Sara Gideon on Primary Win

Jul 15, 2020

End Citizens United and Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Sara Gideon for advancing to the general election:

“Congratulations to Sara Gideon on tonight’s win. The road to flipping the Senate and rooting out corruption in Washington runs through Maine, and we’re thrilled to have a reformer in Sara Gideon take on Senator Collins.

“After 23 years in the Senate and taking the most corporate PAC money in Maine history, it’s obvious that Susan Collins has changed. Mainers understand that the $5.7 million Collins has taken from corporate PACs, which includes Big Pharma and healthcare PACs, is a big reason their prescription drug prices never go down or why they can’t afford healthcare.

“Sara Gideon has the grit and independence to fix the rigged system that Collins helped create. She rejects corporate PAC money and has made ending political corruption in both parties a top priority. Mainers will never have to guess who she’s working for. We’re proud to stand with Sara heading into the general and we look forward to shining a light on Senator Collins’ record.”

ECU endorsed Sara Gideon in July 2019 because of her commitment to reform and making Washington work for Mainers. Gideon, who rejects donations from corporate PACs, is running a grassroots campaign powered by small-dollar donors. In her first major policy announcement, Sara Gideon unveiled a bold and comprehensive agenda to rein in the influence of special interests and crack down on corruption in Washington. In June 2020, ECU launched a $2 million ad campaign in Maine, its first broadcast television ad of the 2020 cycle. Titled, “Changes,” the ad holds Senator Collins accountable for her vote to slash taxes for corporate special interests and for taking the most corporate PAC money in Maine history.
