End Citizens United and Let America Vote Endorse Mondaire Jones in NY-17

Jun 12, 2020

Jones is rejecting corporate PAC money

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Mondaire Jones in New York’s Seventeenth Congressional District. Jones is rejecting corporate PAC money and building a grassroots-powered campaign of small donors. Jones has also made ending the outsized influence of money in politics and protecting and expanding access to the ballot cornerstones of his campaign, including putting forth a comprehensive plan to restore our democracy.

“Mondaire Jones began his work to fight for true campaign finance reform as a member of the Office of Legal Policy at the Department of Justice when Citizens United was decided in 2010,” said ECU and LAV President Tiffany Muller. “Now, in his campaign for Congress, Jones is continuing that fight by rejecting corporate PAC money and proving to New Yorkers that he’ll be accountable to them, not corporate special interests. We’re proud to endorse Mondaire Jones, and we look forward to helping him win.”

“Throughout my life, I’ve experienced firsthand how our broken campaign finance system excludes people of color, working families and young people from equally participating in our democracy,” said Mondaire Jones. “I’m running for Congress to champion the critical fight to expand our democracy through comprehensive campaign finance reform and protecting the right to vote. I’m proud to have End Citizens United and Let America Vote’s support, and I look forward to working alongside them to make our government work better for New Yorkers.”

bipartisan poll shows that a majority of voters see corruption in the political system as the most serious problem facing the country, especially among independents. The poll also finds that unlimited, undisclosed political contributions and the influence of big money in politics are seen as major problems.

ECU and LAV recently merged to combat the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: Big Money and voter suppression. ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and rooting out corruption in Washington so that the government works for all Americans. LAV is building a grassroots effort to fight back against voter suppression and protect every American’s right to vote.

ECU and LAV will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. ECU has more than four million members nationwide, including 10,900 in NY-17, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
