End Citizens United and Let America Vote Endorse Three Texas Candidates for Congress

Aug 11, 2020

Seikaly, Siegel and Imam are all rejecting corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Lulu Seikaly (TX-03), Mike Siegel (TX-10) and Donna Imam (TX-31) for Congress. All three candidates are running reform-focused campaigns by rejecting both corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money. They support critical reform legislation, like the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics reform bill in a generation.

“Lulu Seikaly, Mike Siegel and Donna Imam are proving they’ll fight on behalf of Texans in Washington by building grassroots-powered campaigns,” said ECU and LAV President Tiffany Muller. “While their Republican opponents are mum when it comes to standing up to corporate special interests, these three candidates are rejecting corporate PAC and federal lobbyist money to make progress on critical issues impacting Texas families, like lowering the cost of prescription drugs and providing access to quality healthcare. We’re proud to endorse these reformers and we look forward to helping them win.”

Seikaly, Siegel and Imam join a growing movement of reformers in Texas who are rejecting corporate PAC money, including ECU-endorsed candidates MJ Hegar (TX-Sen), Sima Ladjevardian (TX-02), Wendy Davis (TX-21), Sri Preston Kulkarni (TX-22), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Candace Valenzuela (TX-24), Julie Oliver (TX-25) and Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32). In the 116th Congress, nearly 60 members are refusing to take corporate PAC money, which includes 27 members of the House freshman class who flipped their district. With rapidly growing and diverse populations, Democrats are poised to be competitive in Texas in 2020.

ECU and Let America Vote (LAV) recently merged to combat the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: Big Money and voter suppression. ECU is dedicated to getting Big Money out of politics and fixing the rigged system in Washington so that the government works for all Americans. LAV is building a grassroots effort to fight back against voter suppression and protect every American’s right to vote.

ECU and LAV will work to end our rigged political system by electing reform champions, passing meaningful legislative reforms, and elevating these issues in the national conversation. ECU has more than four million members nationwide, including 4,000 in TX-03, 5,100 in TX-10 and 5,800 in TX-31, and is entirely grassroots-funded with an average donation of just $14.
