End Citizens United and Let America Vote Stand with Rep. Jared Golden Heading into General Election

Jul 15, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Representative Jared Golden (ME-02) for advancing to the general election:

“Congressman Golden is already changing the way Washington works. His decision to refuse corporate PAC money has made it abundantly clear that Mainers, not special interests, guide his decision-making. Whether it’s working to root out corruption, lower prescription drug prices or expanding healthcare, Jared has been laser-focused on delivering results for families in the district. Mainers have a champion in Congressman Golden, and we look forward to helping re-elect him so that he can continue the incredible work he’s started.”

ECU endorsed Golden’s re-election campaign in March 2019 as part of the group’s first round of House incumbent endorsements. Golden, who ran on a reform platform in 2018, rejects corporate PAC money and helped pass the For the People Act (H.R.1). This legislation would implement the most sweeping campaign finance, voting rights, and ethics reforms since Watergate, and includes an amendment led by Rep. Golden that would prevent bad actors from abusing the bill’s clean elections program.

Golden also recently released his Agenda to Fix a Broken Washington, which includes two new bills. The Crack Down on Dark Money Act would bring dark money into the light to ensure Americans know who’s trying to influence their vote by forcing these organizations to either drastically limit their election spending or disclose their funders. The Stop Foreign Payoffs Act would prevent senior government officials from having conflicts of interest with foreign entities by prohibiting them from earning a salary from or holding an investment in a foreign business as long as the official is in office.
