End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on Senator Kamala Harris’ acceptance of the Democratic nomination for Vice President, the first Black woman and first Asian American woman to appear on any major-party ticket:
“Congratulations to Kamala Harris on tonight’s historic nomination. Kamala’s candidacy sends a powerful message of hope to women and girls of color across the country who can now see themselves in a Vice Presidential candidate.
“Kamala Harris’ candidacy is also important given the high-stakes of this year’s election. Right now, our country is crying out for steady, thoughtful and compassionate leaders who will work to root out rampant corruption and put people first.
“Kamala couldn’t be better for the job. Since her time as California’s Attorney General, she has fought against Big Money in politics, including going after Big Banks after the mortgage crisis in 2008. In the Senate, she led on co-sponsoring the For the People Act, the DISCLOSE Act, and a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United. She also led the fight on protecting voting rights for all Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic, sponsoring the VoteSafe Act, which would authorize $5 billion to expand vote-by-mail and early voting options, and ensure safe in-person voting.
“Together, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden make the perfect pair to restore the soul of our nation. End Citizens United and Let America Vote are committed to helping this historic ticket win so we can take back our democracy.”
