End Citizens United and Let America Vote Statement on Kamala Harris’ Victory in the Vice Presidential Debate

Oct 07, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on Kamala Harris’ win tonight in the vice presidential debate:

“When Kamala Harris was first announced as Joe Biden’s vice presidential pick, her historic candidacy sent a powerful message of hope, particularly to women and girls of color across the country who could finally see themselves at the top of the ticket for one of this country’s major political parties. Harris sent that same message in tonight’s debate with a resounding victory against Mike Pence.

“As Vice President, Kamala Harris will work to root out rampant corruption and put people first, just like she’s done throughout her career. Since her time as California’s Attorney General, she has fought against Big Money in politics, including going after Big Banks after the mortgage crisis in 2008. As Senator, she co-sponsored the For the People Act, the most sweeping anti-corruption, voting rights and ethics bill in a generation, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which restores the full protection of the Voting Rights Act, and the DISCLOSE Act, a bill that increases transparency in political spending, and is lead sponsor on the VoteSafe Act, which protects our right to vote.

“Equality, democracy, and voting rights are all on the ballot this November. Kamala Harris proved tonight that she and Joe Biden are the team who can restore the soul of our nation. Kamala’s compassion, strength and competency will help rebuild Americans’ faith in our elected leaders and in our democracy.”
