End Citizens United and Let America Vote Statement on Second Impeachment Trial of Donald Trump

Feb 09, 2021

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump following the U.S. House’s bipartisan vote to impeach the former President after he incited an armed insurrection against the United States government in an attempt to overthrow a legitimate election and undermine American democracy on January 6th:

“Donald Trump must be held accountable for his reckless behavior and rhetoric that led to the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6th. His actions were a violation of his oath to the Constitution, making the Senate’s second impeachment trial a necessary step to safeguarding our elections, regardless of whether he still holds office.

“The House did its job by putting country over party and casting a bipartisan vote to impeach him. Senate Republicans––including many of whom also spread misinformation and tried to overturn the results of the election, which helped incite the insurrection––enabled Donald Trump throughout his time in office. Now they should rise during this dark moment in our country’s history, and along with the Democratic Senate majority, impeach Donald Trump to preserve the integrity and strength of our democracy for generations to come.”
