End Citizens United and Let America Vote Statement on Senate Democrats’ New Captured Courts Report

Oct 09, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement praising Senate Democrats’ new Captured Courts report, which reveals how the proliferation of dark money spending on behalf of conservative judicial nominees has led to an erosion of many of the country’s most important campaign finance and voter protection laws and further opened the door for even more unlimited dark money spending by special interests:

“American deserve a Supreme Court that believes in justice for all, not just the wealthy and big corporations. Today’s report reveals how dark money created the conservative majority of the Supreme Court that has actively drowned out Americans’ voices in our democracy by allowing for even more unlimited political spending and rampant voter suppression. From voting rights to big money in politics, there’s no doubt Judge Amy Coney Barrett would be another dark money-backed justice who would then further rig the system in favor of the rich and powerful.

“We applaud Senators Ron Wyden, Tom Udall, Sheldon Whitehouse, Debbie Stabenow and Senate Democrats for their report and commitment to ensuring every voice can be heard in politics. With nearly less than four weeks until Election Day, Mitch McConnell and the Republican-controlled Senate need to adhere to the standard they set in 2016 and allow the next president to fill the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat. This is what the American people want.”
