End Citizens United and Let America Vote Statement on Senator Tom Carper’s Introduction of S. 51 for D.C. Statehood

Jan 27, 2021

End Citizens United (ECU)//Let America Vote (LAV) Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on Senator Tom Carper’s (D-DE) introduction of bill S. 51 to make Washington, D.C. a state, following Congresswoman Eleanor Norton’s (D-DC) bill in the House:

“D.C. has more than 700,000 residents, the majority of whom are Black and brown, who serve on juries, fight in our military and pay federal taxes without representation in our government. Washingtonians deserve the same full representation, self-government and same rights as their fellow Americans living in states.

“It’s wrong that their voices are denied full and fair representation by Congress. We applaud Senator Tom Carper for introducing S. 51 in the Senate to join in the fight for D.C. Statehood alongside Congresswoman Eleanor Norton and Mayor Muriel Bowser. We urge Congress to act swiftly to pass this bill into law and give Washingtonians statehood now.”
