Jul 18, 2020

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the passing of civil rights hero Congressman John Lewis (GA-05):

“No words can adequately summarize the influence, inspiration, and legacy of Congressman John Lewis’ life. He stood against injustice in every form, fighting to make this nation a more perfect union. With his blood, sweat, and tears, he changed the course of the nation’s history, forcing it to become more just and equitable. He served as an inspiration and beacon for all who followed.

“From leading voter registration efforts in the 1965 Selma voting rights campaign to co-authoring the Voter Empowerment Act of 2019, Lewis was at the forefront of the fight to protect and expand the right to vote for all Americans. In Congress, he was a steadfast advocate of rooting out corruption and pushing for ethics reforms. He was indisputably the Conscience of Congress and a hero for our nation.

“As we grieve this tremendous loss, End Citizens United and Let America Vote recommit ourselves to making good trouble, necessary trouble, to build a fairer, more just America for all.”
