End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Chevron doctrine, shifting federal agencies’ power to the judicial system:
“It just became that much easier for corporations to sabotage the very federal agencies that protect our environment, our workplaces, and our public health. Today’s ruling is the culmination of years of dark money networks spending millions of dollars to sway conservative justices, including showering Justice Thomas with enough lavish gifts to convince him to flip-flop on his previously favorable opinion of the Chevron doctrine.
“We’ve seen how easy it is for ultra-conservative billionaires to bankroll corrupt Supreme Court justices to buy influence, and now their influence extends into shaping crucial federal regulations. This ruling, paid for by special interests, will be a boon for corporate profits and spell disaster for the critical protections that help keep us safe.”
