End Citizens United Calls on Rosendale to Return Cash from Shady Campaign Finance Scheme

Jul 18, 2018

Today on a press call with Montana media, End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller called on Matt Rosendale, East Coast developer and candidate for Montana Senate, to return money he funned to his campaign through a scheme that has been compared to money laundering. Last week, a Daily Beast report exposed his plan to cook the books in order to take campaign donations above the legal limit.

“There’s no doubt it that this is a shady tactic. And it’s been rightfully described as something that ‘looks a lot like a money laundering scheme.’ He should return this money or donate it to charity, and commit to ending this deceptive practice,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller.

End Citizens United was joined by State Representative Bryce Bennett (D-91). ECU has 16,000 members in Montana and has been active and engaged in the state, which has a proud tradition of supporting good government and clean, transparent elections. The grassroots group has supported a series of bills introduced by Senator Jon Tester that would increase transparency and accountability in elections and overturn the disastrous Citizens United decision. The group has endorsed Tester, who has a strong record of fighting to reform the broken campaign finance system. Last month, ECU spotlighted Governor Bullock’s executive order requiring government contractors to disclose political spending in Montana.
