Brindisi rejects corporate PAC money, while opponent has taken $270,000 in corporate cash
End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Anthony Brindisi for Congress in New York’s 22nd district. Brindisi is making getting money out of politics a key pillar of his campaign and has pledged not to accept contributions from corporate PACs.
“By taking a stand to reject corporate PAC money, Anthony Brindisi is proving that he’s accountable to the people of New York, not greedy corporate special interests. He’s putting his money where his mouth is,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “Anthony stands in stark contrast to his opponent, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who’s bought and paid for by special interests and works to protect the rigged system. We look forward to working with Anthony to give a voice to those who have been ignored by Tenney and her corporate sponsors.”
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of End Citizens United, a group that champions campaign finance reform. The onslaught of untraceable, secret money is a stain on our democracy,” said Anthony Brindisi, candidate for New York’s 22nd district. “I am extremely concerned with the direction of spending in politics where grassroots support is drowned out by corporate outside spending. As a member of the New York State Legislature, I have been a strong voice in favor of reforming our broken campaign finance system and as congressman will fight to fix the rigged system.”
While Anthony Brindisi has pledged to not accept a dime of corporate PAC money, his opponent Congresswoman Claudia Tenney has taken $270,000 from corporate PACs in just two years and fought to increase the role of Big Money in politics. Tenney has voted for a bill that included several dangerous riders that would enable more special interest money with less disclosure to flood elections, such as allowing political groups to use churches to funnel money into campaigns.
End Citizens United will connect Brindisi’s campaign with its nearly 5,700 members in New York’s 22nd congressional district and activate its 360,000 national donors to help ensure he has the resources to win. This cycle, ECU has raised almost $2 million in small-dollar, grassroots donations for its endorsed candidates.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. Founded over two years ago, the group has grown to more than three million members.
