North Dakota has ranked among the most corrupt states in the nation, according to the nonpartisan Center for Public Integrity
End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed the North Dakota Anti-Corruption Amendment after Secretary of State Al Jaeger certified it for the November ballot. North Dakotans for Public Integrity, the nonpartisan group sponsoring the amendment, collected more than 38,000 signed petitions, far more than the 26,904 valid signatures required.
“In North Dakota, politicians have created a rigged system that keeps them and their special interest donors in charge. There’s no transparency and no accountability. This amendment will upend the corrupt system and restore power to North Dakota families. Our grassroots members in the state are fired up for this fight and we look forward to seeing this amendment pass in November,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller.
The North Dakota Anti-Corruption Amendment is designed to:
-
Affirm the voters’ right to know the original source of all money raised or spent to influence elections
-
Ban foreign money in North Dakota politics
-
Close the revolving door that allows public officials to immediately become lobbyists
-
Create an independent, nonpartisan ethics commission to enforce these rules and hold public officials accountable
ECU was established in March 2015 to counter the harmful effects of Citizens United and reform our campaign finance system. Its affiliated project, Fight for Reform (FFR), focuses on bringing transparency and accountability to state and local elections around the country. FFR will connect its grassroots activists and donors with the initiative.
