Lawrence, KS — End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Paul Davis for Congress in the Kansas 2nd congressional district. A fighter against the rigged system, Davis has fought to end the corrosive influence of money-in-politics from his first bill introduced as a state legislator in Kansas which would end dark money to opposing efforts to increase the state’s campaign contribution limits.
“I couldn’t imagine a better candidate for the 2nd congressional than Paul Davis. Paul is tough and he’s not afraid to do the right thing for Kansas. That includes standing up to the Washington politicians who are bought and paid for by the special interests,” said Tiffany Muller, president and executive director for End Citizens United. “We’re proud to endorse Paul and look forward to working together to unrig the system for Kansans and Americans across the country.”
“Our political system is fundamentally broken. It wasn’t broken by Republicans or Democrats. It was broken by money. Unprecedented, unchecked, obscene amounts of money in our government, and in our elections,” said Paul Davis. “Changing the system is how we give you back your voice in your government. It’s how we restore accountability to Congress.”
End Citizens United will connect Davis’ campaign with its nearly 4,500 members in Kansas’ 2nd congressional district and activate its 360,000 national donors to help ensure he has the resources to win. In 2016, ECU helped elect campaign finance reform champions New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan and Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto, both in battleground states, by exposing their opponents’ ties to special interests. This cycle, with an average donation of $14, ECU has raised almost $2 million for its endorsed candidates.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Davis, will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. Founded two years ago, today the group has over three million members.
