End Citizens United, one of the nation’s foremost anti-corruption organizations, today endorsed Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand for governor of Iowa. Sand has spent his career uncovering waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars and holding both parties accountable for government corruption to protect Iowans and their tax dollars, and he will continue that fight as governor.
“Rob Sand has proven throughout his career as a criminal prosecutor and state auditor that he is the right leader for Iowa who has what it takes to fight back against corruption and do what’s right for all Iowans,” said ECU President Tiffany Muller. “Sand is deeply committed to public service, and he will always put Iowa families first—not special interests. End Citizens United is proud to endorse him and we look forward to supporting his grassroots, people-powered campaign.”
“I’ve spent my career fighting corruption—locking up scammers, taxpayer abusers, and thieves as Iowa’s chief public corruption prosecutor, and uncovering a record amount of waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars for the last six years as Iowa’s State Auditor,” said Rob Sand. “Now, I’m taking my fight to the governor’s office because for too long, our elected officials have fought for powerful insiders – not Iowa families. I’m grateful for the work End Citizens United has done in the fight against corruption and to make our elections freer and fairer. As governor, I’ll make government more transparent, continue rooting out corruption, and will always put Iowans first.”
During his time as Iowa’s State Auditor, Sand uncovered more waste in a single term than any other State Auditor in the state’s history—including more than $29 million in misspent money—and held politicians in both parties accountable when they weren’t doing right by Iowans. He created the Public Innovations and Efficiencies program (PIE) that rewarded local cities, counties, and school districts for improving their efficiency efforts—an effort so effective it’s been replicated in two other states. As governor, Sand will continue to solve issues for Iowa taxpayers, lower costs for working families, and be a consistent voice calling out corruption.
