Washington DC — End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Senator Elizabeth Warren for U.S. Senate. Warren, a staunch opponent of the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision, has worked vigorously to reform our broken campaign finance system.

Leading the charge for campaign finance reform, Warren has been a vocal advocate for disclosure, fighting for legislation in the Senate to stop mega-donors from hiding their political spending. She’s also pushed for rules requiring government contractors and public corporations to disclose their political spending. Warren is a staunch supporter of a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and the corrosive, corrupting influence of money in politics. She is opposed by the Wall Street special interests due to her career-long and fierce advocacy protecting consumers against fraud and manipulation of big banks. In 2018, Warren is reprising her call for the People’s Pledge to ensure the people of Massachusetts hear directly from the candidates, not from shady outside groups. The groundbreaking pledge in Warren’s 2012 race kept outside money out of the race by requiring candidates who benefited from an outside ad to donate half the value of the ad to charity.
End Citizens United will connect Warren’s campaign with its 100,000 members in Massachusetts and it will activate its 360,000 grassroots, small-dollar donors nationwide to help ensure she has the resources to win. The grassroots-funded organization is projected to raise $35 million for the 2018 cycle, averaging a $14 contribution from hundreds of thousands of everyday Americans. In 2016, ECU helped elect campaign finance reform champions Sen. Maggie Hassan (NH) and Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto (NV), both in battleground states, by exposing their opponents’ ties to special interests.
ECU is a grassroots-funded organization dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Warren, will fight to overturn Citizens United and pass meaningful campaign finance reform.
