End Citizens United Endorses Senator Martin Heinrich For Re-election

Jul 06, 2017

ALBUQUERQUE, Nm. – End Citizens United (ECU) today endorsed Senator Heinrich for re-election. A staunch advocate of campaign finance reform, Heinrich has fought against the flood of unlimited, undisclosed money in politics.

“Senator Heinrich has consistently stepped up to the plate to root out Big Money from our political system and represent those who really matter — hard-working New Mexico families,” said Tiffany Muller, president and executive director of End Citizens United. “He knows that special interests are rigging the system and Americans are getting left behind, which is why he’s fighting to rip the price tag off of our democracy. We’re proud to endorse Senator Heinrich and look forward to our continued work to fix our broken campaign finance system.”

“Our democracy should never be for sale and I’m honored to have the support of End Citizens United,” said New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich. “Corporations aren’t people. The disastrous decision allows secret money from big corporations – even those based in other countries – to buy their way into our government, from the House of Representatives to the White House. We need to stand up and join together to ban corporate spending in our elections and end this corruption of our election system once and for all.”

End Citizens United will connect Heinrich’s campaign with its 30,000 members in New Mexico and activate its 360,000 national donors to help ensure he has the resources to win. In the recent special election in Georgia, ECU’s members contributed $1.4 million in small-dollar donations directly to Jon Ossoff’s campaign. In 2016, ECU helped elect campaign finance reform champions New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan and Nevada Sen. Catherine Cortez-Masto, both in battleground states, by exposing their opponents’ ties to special interests. In the 2018 election cycle, ECU is projected to raise $35 million from hundreds of thousands of grassroots small-dollar donors.

ECU is a grassroots-funded organization that is dedicated to electing members of Congress who, like Heinrich, will fight to overturn Citizens United and to pass campaign finance reform that will remove unlimited, undisclosed money from our political system. In the 2016 election cycle, ECU’s grassroots members displayed their strength, raising $25 million from 300,000 donors with a $14 average contribution. Founded two years ago, today the group has over three million members.
