End Citizens United (ECU) President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after the final Maine Senate debate:
“Over the last two years, Sara Gideon has run a legendary grassroots campaign that focuses on Mainers and their concerns. Her decision to refuse corporate PAC money at the outset of the campaign stands in stark contrast to Senator Collins and the corrupt Big Money propping her up. Sara has a bold plan to end political corruption and knows we can’t achieve progress on the issues important to Maine families unless we remove the stranglehold that corporate special interests have over our government.
“Senator Collins complains about how outside groups have too much influence, but she has consistently refused to support or introduce reforms that would make a difference. She has become entrenched in the system and it’s hurting Maine families. Healthcare, prescription drug prices, a fair tax code: these are just the most recent examples of the Senator’s inability to stand up to her corporate donors and party bosses.
