End Citizens United // Let America Vote Announce New Slate of Virginia House of Delegate Candidate Endorsements

Aug 12, 2021

End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today announced its endorsement of 11 candidates running for the House of Delegates in Virginia, all of whom are committed to reforming the commonwealth’s campaign finance system and are strong advocates of protecting the right to vote.

The 11 candidates include: Sam Rasoul (HD-11), Debra Gardner (HD-27), Josh Cole (HD-28), Michelle Maldonado (HD-50), Briana Sewell (HD-51), Lashrecse Aird (HD-63), Katie Sponsler (HD-66), Clint Jenkins (HD-76), Nancy Guy (HD-83), Marcia ‘Cia’ Price (HD-95), and Finale Norton (HD-100).

“With dark money special interests ramping up their attacks on democracy in states nationwide, it is critical that we elect these reformers dedicated to fixing Virginia’s campaign finance system and protecting the right to vote,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “With all of these candidates in office, the House of Delegates will be able to build off the work of their current Democratic trifecta to tackle the corrosive and corrupting influence of big money in Virginia politics and protect access to the ballot box. We are proud to endorse these candidates seeking to ensure more equal and just representation for all Virginians.”

The 11 endorsed candidates are committed to prioritizing reform measures such as creating common-sense limits on campaign contributions, banning the personal use of campaign funds, eliminating the role of corporate and dark money in Virginia elections, restricting contributions from publicly regulated utilities, and protecting and expanding the freedom to vote.

ECU // LAV was actively engaged in the 2019 elections to flip the Virginia general assembly. In total, ECU // LAV raised and contributed more than $100,000 for endorsed Virginia legislative candidates.

ECU // LAV also mobilized its members for GOTV efforts in Chesterfield, Henrico, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg, and Fairfax over the final two weeks. ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller, along with Representative Abigail Spanberger and other advocacy groups, teamed up to kick off three canvassing events for Virginia legislative candidates in the Richmond area. This is the second round of ECU // LAV endorsements for the 2021 Virginia House of Delegates election.
