End Citizens United // Let America Vote Calls on Congress to Pass Stock Trading Ban

Aug 04, 2022

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund joined 20 anti-corruption groups calling on Congress to pass legislation banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks. The letter comes a week after news reports that House Democrats were close to releasing consensus legislation on the issue.

“Banning Members from owning or trading individual stocks is a concrete step Congress can take to reduce corruption and begin to restore the public’s faith in their elected officials. We encourage Congress to act–now–to pass this popular and important legislation,” said Tiffany Muller, president of End Citizens United / Let America Vote Action Fund.

ECU // LAV along with the Center for Responsibility and Ethics and other groups urge Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi to “commit to bringing up a vote in early September to prohibit members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading stocks. This cannot wait any longer – the American people deserve to know that the needs of the public, not members of Congress’s stock portfolios, come first.”

The letter is available online here.
