End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement congratulating Beto O’Rourke on winning the Democratic primary for Texas Governor:
“Congratulations to Beto O’Rourke on his victory. Beto has a track record of fighting for the people of Texas–from protecting the freedom to vote from extremist, anti-voter politicians, to standing up to corporate special interests by rejecting corporate PAC money.
“Beto is running against one of the most radical and corrupt governors in the country–Greg Abbott. When Texas’ energy grid collapsed, leaving Texans cold and in the dark, Abbott didn’t try to fix the grid. Instead, he directed ERCOT to raise prices on struggling Texas families, taking money out of their pockets during a statewide crisis and lining the pockets of gas corporations who gave his campaign $4.6 million.
“We’re excited about Beto’s primary victory tonight and look forward to Texans electing him this November.”
ECU // LAV endorsed Beto O’Rourke in November 2021 because of his commitment to rooting out corruption, rejection of corporate PAC money, and dedication to protecting the freedom to vote. O’Rourke and ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller spoke out against Texas’ dangerous and un-American restrictive voting law when Republicans in the state first tried to pass it last year. ECU was Beto’s first endorsement during his 2018 Senate campaign.
ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of Big Money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including nearly 154,000 in Texas.
