End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the results of the Democratic primary for Georgia Governor:
“Congratulations to Stacey Abrams on winning the Democratic primary for Georgia Governor. There are few people who have been more dedicated to protecting the freedom to vote and fighting for the people of Georgia than Stacey Abrams. From leading a successful, bipartisan effort to protect Georgians from a corporate tax scam, to founding and leading Georgia organizations that have fought to protect the voice and vote of every Georgian, Abrams has always stood on the side of hard-working Georgia families.”
Abrams is running against Governor Brian Kemp, a self-serving politician who has spent his time in office working for his wealthy donors, not for the people of Georgia. Earlier this year, Kemp and his allies were caught giving highly competitive medical marijuana contracts to donors who had given his re-election bid upwards of $300,000. Kemp also led anti-voter efforts in Georgia, last year signing into law SB 202, one of the nation’s most radical restrictive voting laws, which handed control of elections over to partisan politicians instead of trusted local officials, and limited access to accessible methods of voting, silencing the voice of Georgians, particularly Black Georgians.
ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of big money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including over 75,000 in Georgia.
