All 12 delegates helped pass the Voting Rights Act of Virginia
End Citizens United (ECU) and Let America Vote (LAV) today announced its endorsement of 12 incumbent delegates running for reelection in Virginia, all of whom are committed to protecting the right to vote and fixing the Commonwealth’s broken campaign finance system. All 12 incumbents helped pass the landmark Voting Rights Act of Virginia earlier this year.
The list of endorsed candidates includes: Wendy Gooditis (HD-10), Chris Hurst (HD-12), Danica Roem (HD-13), Kelly Convirs-Fowler (HD-21), Dan Helmer (HD-40), Kathy Tran (HD-42), Sally Hudson (HD-57), Schuyler VanValkenburg (HD-72), Rodney Willett (HD-73), Alex Askew (HD-85), Mike Mullin (HD-93), Shelly Simonds (HD-94).
“At a time where dark money special interests are erecting unprecedented barriers to voting, these reformers have stepped up to protect and expand access to the ballot for all Virginians, especially people of color. Their leadership and advocacy has made Virginia a model for the rest of the country,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “We’re proud to endorse these twelve state legislators for reelection, and we look forward to helping them win so that we can rein in the corrosive and corrupting influence of special interests and continue to protect every Virginian’s right to vote.”
The endorsed candidates are committed to prioritizing reform measures such as creating common-sense limits on campaign contributions, banning the personal use of campaign funds, eliminating dark money in Virginia elections, restricting contributions from publicly regulated utilities, and protecting and expanding access to the ballot.
ECU was actively engaged in the 2019 elections to flip the Virginia general assembly. In total, ECU raised and contributed more than $100,000 for endorsed Virginia legislative candidates. ECU also mobilized its members for GOTV efforts in Chesterfield, Henrico, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg, and Fairfax over the final two weeks. ECU President Tiffany Muller, along with Representative Abigail Spanberger and other advocacy groups, teamed up to kick off three canvassing events for Virginia legislative candidates in the Richmond area.
