Group plans to spend $7 million in key AG and SOS races to hold the line in protecting access to the ballot and reigning in the influence of special interests at the state level
End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser for reelection as part of its “Democracy Defender” program for preeminent Attorney General and Secretary of State candidates in the 2022 cycle. These constitutional officers are critical in the fight to combat dark money-fueled restrictive voting laws being passed across the country and protecting the right to vote. ECU // LAV will spend $7 million in key races across the country, including in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Texas.

“Since assuming office, Attorney General Phil Weiser has been a tireless advocate for Colorado families,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “His commitment to expanding access to the ballot box is a big reason why Colorado enjoys the second highest voter turnout in the country. And given the nationwide assault on voting rights by self-serving politicians and dark money special interests, it’s critical that we reelect Attorney General Weiser to protect those rights and increase transparency in the state. We’re proud to endorse Attorney General Weiser and we look forward to helping him win.”
“We in Colorado are poised to be leaders in defending our democratic institutions. It is critical that our elected officials take seriously any and all attacks on voting rights, redouble our efforts to overturn Citizens United, and promote government ‘of the people, by the people, and for the people.’ I am honored to earn the confidence of End Citizens United/Let America Vote and will continue to defend our voting rights and protect Coloradans,” said Attorney General Phil Weiser.
Attorney General Phil Weiser was first elected in 2018 and as he promised to do when he was running for office, has held dark money interests accountable and brought increased transparency to Colorado politics. In 2020, Weiser fought against undemocratic attempts to undermine our elections, filing a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject a lawsuit to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Weiser is a lifelong public servant, working in President Obama’s Department of Justice and as a clerk for Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
ECU // LAV raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle. Its $12.5 million independent expenditure made it the 5th largest issue group spending on the Democratic side. This will be the first time ECU // LAV is making a multi-million dollar investment in AG and SOS races. The “Democracy Defender” program is part of ECU // LAV’s Fight for Reform (FFR) project that supports candidates at the state and local level.
End Citizens United and Let America Vote merged in 2020. The group is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including over 160,000 in Colorado.
