End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Congresswoman Kathy Manning for Re-election

Apr 21, 2022

Manning is one of the few members of Congress to reject corporate PAC money

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Congresswoman Kathy Manning for re-election in NC-06. Manning, who refuses corporate PAC money, is a leading advocate for making government more responsive to the people, rooting out corruption in Washington, and protecting the freedom to vote.

“Congresswoman Manning understands that the root of inaction on issues important to North Carolina families–like affordable healthcare, protecting our environment, or creating an economy that works for everyone–are corporate special interests,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “That’s why her decision to reject corporate PAC money is such a powerful commitment to voters. On top of her work to root out corruption, she’s been a leader on protecting the freedom to vote, working tirelessly throughout last year to pass voting rights legislation, and speaking out against partisan gerrymandering that denies voters fair and equal representation. We’re proud to endorse Congresswoman Manning, and we look forward to helping her win.”

“As states across the country are attempting to silence the voice of the people by enacting restrictive voting laws, I’m fighting for passage of critical voting rights legislation such as the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to ensure that every voter can make their voice heard,” said Congresswoman Manning. “I look forward to working with End Citizens United and Let America Vote to pass reforms to strengthen our democracy, and I’m proud to have their endorsement.”

Manning was an outspoken supporter of the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, a once-in-a-generation anti-corruption and voting rights bill, and condemned Senate Republicans for intentionally hindering the passage of voting rights legislation in favor of protecting minority rule. Manning also introduced an amendment to the bill to mandate that no voter be forced to wait longer than 30 minutes to cast a ballot. The amendment calls for the Election Assistance Commission and the Government Accountability Office to conduct a study to determine which methods are most effective for ensuring voters aren’t forced to wait longer than 30 minutes to vote.

ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of big money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including over 91,000 in North Carolina.
