End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal for Reelection

May 09, 2024

Congresswoman Jayapal received an ‘A’ on ECU // LAV’s 2024 legislative scorecard for her pro-democracy, anti-corruption work

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal for reelection in Washington’s 7th Congressional District. Jayapal, an outspoken critic of our broken campaign finance system, refuses to take corporate PAC money in her campaign.

“Congresswoman Jayapal is a fierce advocate for working families and she fights every day to make sure their voices are heard in Congress,” said Tiffany Muller, President of End Citizens United // Let America Vote. “She refuses to be bought by corporate special interests because she’s seen how they exploit our broken campaign finance system in order to gain access and influence. Her work to keep our government transparent and accountable is crucial in the fight to protect our democracy. We’re proud to endorse Congresswoman Jayapal and look forward to helping her win.”

“Our democracy is under siege from dark money groups and far-right billionaires who’ve been able to buy power in Washington because of our broken campaign finance system,” said Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. “I’m proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote, an organization that shares my vision for a transparent and accountable government. There is real hope and progress for our movement to get money out of politics. When I first ran for Congress, I was one of just four candidates who refused corporate PAC money––that number has grown to more than 65 members of Congress today. We’re building momentum to ensure our government is in the hands of the people, which means standing against special interests and working to expand and safeguard the freedom to vote. I look forward to working alongside End Citizens United // Let America Vote to continue building a better, more inclusive democracy.”

Congresswoman Jayapal has dedicated her career to ensuring our government is more accountable and transparent to the American people. She sponsored the Bipartisan Ban on Congressional Stock Ownership Act of 2023, the Stop Corporate Capture Act, the Anti-Corruption & Public Integrity Act, and cosponsored the DISCLOSE Act. She supports several other good government reforms, including the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. She also earned an ‘A’ on ECU // LAV’s 2024 legislative scorecard.

Congresswoman Jayapal has also been leading the fight to reform the Supreme Court. She sponsored the Judicial Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act, which would impose an enforceable code of conduct on the Supreme Court and ban federal judges from owning individual stock.

ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
