End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Katrina Shankland for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District. Shankland is refusing to take any corporate PAC money in her campaign.
“Our broken campaign finance system has allowed special interests and the wealthy elite to buy undue access and influence in our government, which is why Katrina Shankland is fighting to put the power back in the hands of the people,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “By refusing to take any corporate PAC money, Katrina is proving that she only serves the people of Wisconsin, not the special interests. Katrina has the experience of passing 225 bipartisan laws in the Wisconsin State Assembly and has proven she will work with anyone to solve the issues that are most pressing to working families—affordable health care, reproductive rights, and protecting the freedom to vote—when we root out corruption in Washington. We’re excited to endorse Katrina and look forward to helping her win.”
“I’m proud to have End Citizens United // Let America’s endorsement, an organization that understands that our democracy cannot be truly representative until we root out the deep-seated corruption in Washington,” said State Representative Katrina Shankland. “I refuse to take any corporate PAC money because my commitment has always been—and always will be—to the people of Wisconsin. I have the experience and proven track record of standing up to special interests and delivering results on the issues that matter most to workers and families.”
Shankland has spent her career fighting to ensure our government reflects the people, by safeguarding the freedom to vote and fighting to fix our broken campaign finance system. As a state representative, she cosponsored several key pieces of legislations that would expand access to the ballot box, rein in big money in politics, and strengthen our democracy. In addition to her state legislative work, she supports federal voting protections including the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. She firmly believes our government should be transparent to the American people and supports legislation that would create more transparency and accountability, like the DISCLOSE Act.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
