Engel is part of ECU // LAV’s first slate of congressional challenger endorsements this cycle, signaling the critical importance of this race
End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Kirsten Engel for Congress (AZ-06) as part of its first House challenger endorsements for the 2024 cycle.
“Kirsten Engel has been a fierce champion in the fight to safeguard democracy and has tirelessly worked to shine a light on the corruption plaguing our politics,” said Tiffany Muller, President of ECU // LAV. “Unlike extremist Juan Ciscomani, Kirsten believes that Arizonan working families should come first—not the interests of dark money groups or power-hungry politicians trying to limit their access to the ballot box. She has taken the bold step of refusing corporate PAC donations, demonstrating to her constituents that she is accountable only to them. We’re proud to endorse Kirsten and are looking forward to helping her win.”
“For too long, secretive special interests and corporations have worked to buy Arizona elections and silence voters which is why I refuse to take any corporate PAC money. I want Arizonans to know that I will never be accountable to the deep-pocketed special interests” said Kirsten Engel. “I’m proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote, who are leaders in protecting our democracy. I look forward to working with them to get corporate money out of our politics and protect our freedom to vote.”
Throughout her career, Engel has been a staunch advocate for passing transparency and anti-corruption laws. During her time in the Arizona State Legislature, she was the prime sponsor of a bill banning utility companies from donating to candidates and co-sponsored similar campaign oversight bills. She also fought against Arizona Republicans’ restrictive voting bills while in office. Engel firmly supports a number of federal anti-corruption and voting protection laws, including the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
