End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Kristen McDonald Rivet for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.
“During her time in office, state Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet proved that she will fight—and win—for Michigan families,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “She is a relentless leader and understands that corporate greed has made our government inaccessible to the majority of people. Kristen will always stand up to shadowy special interests looking to silence the voice of the people. She knows our democracy can never truly work until all voices are heard—not just those who can buy access and influence into Washington. We are excited to endorse Kristen and look forward to helping her win.”
“To really address the concerns of working Michiganders, we need to fix the broken systems in our politics that shrink the power of average voters,” said State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet. “We all know the problems — money in politics, gerrymandering, attacks on voting rights, and more. I am proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote and look forward to working together to root out Big Money in our government and put the power where it belongs, with the people.”
In 2022, McDonald Rivet was elected to the Michigan State Senate, where she was the first Democrat in over a decade and the first woman to represent the Great Lakes Bay Region. In office, she led the charge to pass the largest tax cut for working families in Michigan’s history and helped push for legislation that addressed Michiganders’ biggest concerns, like lowering the cost of prescription drugs. In addition to McDonald Rivet’s local work, she supports federal protections such as the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. As the ultra-wealthy flood elections with undisclosed campaign donations, she supports transparency and accountability legislation to combat these practices, like the DISCLOSE Act.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
