End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorses Laura Friedman for California’s 30th Congressional District. Friedman is refusing corporate PAC contributions in her campaign.
“Laura Friedman is a champion of the people and has dedicated her career towards bettering the lives of Californians,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “She believes our democracy cannot be truly representative of the people until every voice is heard at the ballot box—not just the wealthy elite. It’s why Laura is refusing to take any money from corporate PACs. She knows that we cannot make meaningful progress until we put the people first in our politics and root out the dark money in Washington. We’re proud to endorse Laura and look forward to helping her win.”
“The wealthy elite and shadowy special interests have corrupted our political system for too long, trying to drown out the power of the peoples’ voices,” said Laura Friedman. “It’s time to put everyday people back in the center of our government. I will always fight for the issues that matter most to Californians, like tackling climate change and affordable health care. I will never take corporate PAC money because I believe elected officials should be accountable only to the people—not to corporate donors with their own agenda.”
Friedman has fought for reproductive freedoms, including coauthoring California’s constitutional amendment to protect the right to an abortion and the right to contraceptives. She believes in more transparency and accountability in Washington, which is why she supports crucial legislation like the DISCLOSE Act. She also knows that we need to protect and expand the freedom to vote and supports the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
