End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Nida Allam for Congress in NC-04

Apr 27, 2022

Allam is refusing to take corporate PAC money

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Nida Allam for Congress in North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.

Allam, who is refusing to take corporate PAC money, has been a champion for North Carolina families, fighting against the fossil fuel industry, and standing up for the freedom to vote so every North Carolinian can make their voice heard. In her time as a member of the Durham County Commission, Allam increased the minimum wage for public employees and provided property tax relief for working families in Durham County. She’s been outspoken against the corrosive influence corporate and dark money has in our elections and supports the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, one of the most significant anti-corruption and voting rights legislation in generations, that would protect the freedom to vote, end dark money by making all political donations public, and limit the power of Washington lobbyists by providing more transparency into lobbyist fundraising.

“Nida Allam has always put the people of North Carolina first. From working on the Durham County Commission to raise the minimum wage to speaking out against dark-money attempts to silence the voice and vote of North Carolinians, Allam has a proven track record of fighting to put more money in the pockets of North Carolina families and protect their freedom to vote,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “We could not be more excited about her campaign for Congress and are thrilled to endorse her.”

“I am so proud to have earned the endorsement of End Citizens United and Let America Vote. I’m the only candidate in this race not taking corporate PAC money, fossil fuel money, or self-funding. That’s why when I get to Congress, I’ll be fighting for North Carolina families struggling to make ends meet, not any corporate boardroom. I look forward to working with ECU and LAV to get corporate and dark money out of our politics and make certain every North Carolinian has access to the ballot box in our elections,” said Nida Allam.

ECU // LAV is a leading anti-corruption and voting rights group. The grassroots-funded political action committee raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle to elect candidates fighting to limit the influence of big money in politics and protect the freedom to vote. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including over 91,000 in North Carolina.
