Stevens has established herself as a champion of voting rights and anti-corruption reform in Congress
End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Congresswoman Haley Stevens in Michigan’s eleventh congressional district as part of the group’s efforts to re-elect members of the Democratic House majority committed to limiting the influence of big money in politics and protecting the freedom to vote.
Since being elected to Congress in 2018, Rep. Stevens has quickly established herself as a champion for anti-corruption, voting rights, and secure elections. Twice, Rep. Stevens helped pass the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4) in the House, two critical pieces of legislation that would protect the freedom to vote, fight back against the corrupting influence of dark money in our elections, and eliminate partisan gerrymandering. Rep. Stevens has worked on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology to pass the Election Technology Research Act, which would modernize and secure our election systems.
“Rep. Stevens has been a leader in defending access to the ballot box and standing up to the dark money and special interests corrupting our elections,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “We’re proud to endorse Rep. Stevens as she continues to fight for the people of Michigan and we look forward to seeing her re-elected next year.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of End Citizens United//Let America Vote, who stood by my side as dark money groups spent nearly $2 million against me last year,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “Our grassroots movement of hardworking Michiganders welcomes their support as we prepare to again stand up to the deep-pocketed special interests who are already planning to spend millions more against me next year.”
ECU // LAV raised and spent $65.5 million in the 2020 election cycle and raised and contributed over $6,300 in support of Stevens’s election. Its $12.5 million independent expenditure made it the 4th largest issue group spending on the Democratic side. ECU // LAV’s members raised $9.5 million directly for endorsed candidates and state ballot measures. The group also donated nearly $2.5 million directly to its endorsed campaigns.
ECU // LAV merged in 2020. The group is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. ECU led the effort to flip the House in 2018 by supporting pro-reform candidates that stood up to Big Money special interests. In 2020, ECU // LAV led the fight to protect all Americans’ right to vote, and played a pivotal role in electing anti-corruption Senate candidates that helped flip the chamber. ECU // LAV has more than four million members nationwide, including 8,063 in MI-11.
