Congresswoman Omar is refusing to take corporate PAC money in her campaign
End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Congresswoman Ilhan Omar for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. As champion of democracy reform, Congresswoman Omar does not take corporate PAC money in her campaign.
“Congresswoman Omar knows that our democracy only works when every voice is heard—not just those who can afford to buy access and influence,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “She’s fought tirelessly to get corporate greed out of politics while fighting to protect and expand the freedom to vote. She works for Minnesotans and Minnesotans alone—that’s why Congresswoman Omar will never accept corporate PAC contributions to her campaign. We’re excited to endorse Congresswoman Omar for reelection and help her win.”
“To have a strong democracy, we must root out the corruption in Washington and ensure that the people are at the center of our work,” said Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. “Our broken campaign finance system has allowed for corporate greed and extremist billionaires to spend millions of dollars to drown out the will of the people. I will never be bought by special interests and I will always center the needs of my constituents in my work. I’m proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote and look forward to continuing to work together to get dark money out of our politics and protect the fundamental freedom to vote.”
Congresswoman Omar is a leading anti-corruption champion in Congress. She introduced the Protect Democracy From Criminal Corporations Act, which will ban corporations from political spending for ten years after being convicted of a crime. She also worked to safeguard and expand the freedom to vote by cosponsoring the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. She supports Supreme Court reform and introduced the Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act, which would create an Office of the Inspector General for the Supreme Court. She cosponsored other key legislation, like the DISCLOSE Act and the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act. Congresswoman Omar earned an “A” on ECU // LAV’s 2023 legislative scorecard for her pro-democracy and anti-corruption work.
