End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Senator Brown for Reelection

Mar 30, 2023

End Citizens United (ECU) // Let America Vote (LAV) today endorsed Senator Sherrod Brown for the U.S. Senate in Ohio.

“Since his first election, special interests and billionaires have used our broken system to attack Senator Brown because he’s a threat to the power and influence they wield over our government,” said ECU // LAV President Tiffany Muller. “Senator Brown has been at the forefront of efforts to rein in the unlimited and undisclosed money corrupting our democracy. He knows that progress on the issues important to Ohio families is hindered by a system that only favors the wealthiest Americans. We’re proud to endorse Senator Brown, and we look forward to helping him win reelection.”

“Special interests should not have a louder voice than Ohio workers and families because they can funnel millions into our elections,” said Senator Brown. “I look forward to working with ECU and LAV to strengthen our democracy and return power to workers by overturning Citizens United, getting dark money out of our elections, expanding voting rights, and cracking down on corruption in Washington.”

Brown saw the effects of big money in politics first-hand during his 2012 election when he faced more than $40 million spent by outside groups. In the Senate, he’s been a leader on pushing for legislation to limit the influence of corporate special interests and making government accountable to the people. Brown has supported a number of reform bills, including the Freedom to Vote Act, the Democracy For All Amendment, the Spotlight Act, and the DISCLOSE Act. In 2022, Brown received an “A” on ECU // LAV’s legislative scorecard on anti-corruption and voting rights efforts.

ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than four million members nationwide.
