End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Tony Vargas for Congress

Feb 22, 2024

End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Senator Tony Vargas in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

“At a time when we’re seeing unprecedented attacks on our democracy, Tony Vargas represents new leadership that will put people ahead of politics,” said Tiffany Muller, President of ECU // LAV. “He’s committed to strengthening our democracy by protecting the freedom to vote and working to get Big Money out of Washington. In contrast, his opponent, Don Bacon, has spent the last several years enabling Donald Trump and anti-democracy extremists and defending insurrectionists. Tony will put the needs of working families first and fight for the issues that matter most, like lowering the cost of prescription drugs and protecting reproductive rights. We’re excited to endorse Tony and look forward to helping him win.”

“I am proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote and work alongside them to ensure our democracy works for the people—not special interest groups,” said Senator Tony Vargas. “Our government only works when peoples’ voices are heard, which is why I have fought to expand our fundamental freedom to vote and to root out corruption. On the other hand, Don Bacon has proven he will put party leadership, his megadonors, and special interests first every time by endorsing Donald Trump for the third time, voting against his impeachment, and voting against lowering costs for hardworking families. In Congress, I will always prioritize and fight for Nebraskans.”

As a State Senator, Tony Vargas introduced legislation to expand early voting in elections and fought back against restrictive voter ID laws. In addition to his local work, he supports federal protections such as the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. He also believes in shining a light on dark money and supports legislation that would create more transparency and accountability, like the DISCLOSE Act. In contrast, Congressman Don Bacon has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate special interests, megadonors, and industries like Big Pharma and Wall Street. Bacon has consistently worked against Nebraskans to line the pockets of his corporate donors, including voting against lowering prescription drug costs.

ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
