End Citizens United // Let America Vote Joins 200+ Groups Calling on the Senate to Delay Recess to Pass Voting Rights Bills

Dec 02, 2021

End Citizens United // Let America Vote joined the Declaration of American Democracy, Leadership Conference for Civil and Human Rights, and more than 200 organizations today calling on the U.S. Senate to prioritize passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act by delaying the upcoming December recess.

“The Senate must cancel its upcoming December recess to prioritize passage of the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act,” said End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller. “Time is running out to counteract the Republican-led assault on voting rights and their extreme partisan gerrymandering. No one should be taking a day off until we safeguard our democracy and ensure every American’s freedom to vote and their ability to be heard in elections is secured. Recess can wait.”

The Freedom to Vote Act is a commonsense compromise bill that ensures every American has access to the ballot box, stops dark money so billionaires can no longer buy elections, ends partisan gerrymandering so voters choose their elected representatives, not the other way around, and protects our elections from sabotage, making certain that voters are safe from intimidation and every vote can be counted by trusted local election officials. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will go hand-in-hand with the Freedom to Vote Act by protecting voters from discrimination by restoring the full power of the Voting Rights Act.
