End Citizens United // Let America Vote Marches for Voting Rights on the Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington

Aug 28, 2021

Today, End Citizens United // Let America Vote participated in marches and rallies across the country commemorating the 58th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic March on Washington and demanding that the Senate and President Biden act quickly to protect voting rights. Along with partner organizations like Black Voters Matter, March On, Gathering for Justice, and more, thousands of Americans came together in cities across America and at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. to fight for the freedom to vote. End Citizens United // Let America Vote Vice President of Voting Rights and State Organizing Porsha White spoke about the necessity of passing federal voting rights legislation.

The marches come just weeks before the Senate returns from recess in September, when Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced that the Senate will begin with consideration of federal voting rights legislation. With the right to vote under attack from dark-money special interests nationwide and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 gutted by the Supreme Court, the Senate must act quickly and pass both the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4), and should not let outdated Senate procedure stand in the way.
