End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) President Tiffany Muller issued the following statement on the Colorado Supreme Court decision disqualifying Donald Trump from appearing on the ballot:
“Donald Trump led an insurrection, breaking his oath to the Constitution and clearly disqualifying him under the 14th amendment. The difference between democracies and dictatorships is adherence to the rules enshrined in the Constitution. In order for our democracy to survive, those rules must be applied equally and fairly to all, just as the Colorado Supreme Court has done in this case.”
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, also known as the Disqualification Clause, bars any person from holding federal or state office who took an “oath…to support the Constitution of the United States” and then has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
