End Citizens United // Let America Vote Praises House for Passing H.R. 4, Urges Senate to Move Quickly on Voting Rights

Aug 24, 2021

End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after the U.S. House passed H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2021:

“Since its enactment over 50 years ago, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 has been gutted by an extremist, right-wing Supreme Court. This, coupled with the over 400 anti-voter laws that have been introduced in 49 states, has done tremendous damage to our democracy, and the ability of all Americans to have their voices heard.

“That is why it is so important that House Democrats today passed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4). This bill will restore the full powers of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and protect the voice and vote of the American people by fighting against racial discrimination in voting laws.

“We now urge the Senate to follow the leadership of the late Congressman John Lewis–who dedicated his life to fighting for the freedom to vote for all Americans–by quickly passing both the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1).”
