End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement in celebration of Women’s History Month:
“Today, our country is led by the first woman and person of color as Vice President of the United States and more women than ever are in leadership roles, including the Speaker of the House and a record number of those in elected office. Despite discrimination, adversity and without access to the ballot for the first 150 years of this nation, American women have organized and marched to demand equality, fought for their right to vote, and broken glass ceilings in the board room and on the ballot. Their persistence and perseverance has changed the trajectory of this nation to make it a more perfect union.
“While these milestones demonstrate how far we’ve come, there is still a long journey ahead. Women are still underrepresented as political candidates and elected officials and they face more challenges accessing the ballot, especially women of color and women with disabilities. We can do better. This month, as we celebrate the history and contributions that have made women the backbone of our country, we pledge to fight harder––including by passing the For the People Act––to make sure women, and all Americans, are truly represented and have a voice in shaping our democracy.
