End Citizens United//Let America Vote Statement on 85th Anniversary of Social Security

Aug 14, 2020

End Citizens United//Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the 85th anniversary of Social Security being signed into law:

“Eighty-five years ago, during one of the darkest periods in our nation’s history, our leaders found the moral courage to address extreme wealth inequality in our society while promising seniors economic security and dignity after a lifetime of work. Over the past 85 years, Social Security has played an indispensable role for millions of Americans, many of them on the brink of poverty. Despite its success and overwhelming popularity, President Trump and the Republican conference are on a crusade to eliminate the program to help fund bailouts, giveaways, and handouts to their corporate special interest donors.

“Whether it’s the President’s recent executive order or the 2017 GOP tax bill, they’ve made it abundantly clear they won’t stop their attacks on key programs that American families rely on until their donors are satisfied. We need more leaders who will fight to protect and strengthen Social Security, not more cowards who take aim at the most vulnerable in our society.”
