End Citizens United // Let America Vote Statement on Anniversary of House Passage of Voting Rights Advancement Act

Dec 04, 2020

End Citizens United//Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement ahead of Sunday’s one-year anniversary of House passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4), legislation that was later renamed the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act:

“In a democracy, nothing is so foundational as the right to cast a ballot free of discrimination and harassment. The late John Lewis knew this principle intimately – it’s what he devoted his life to. H.R. 4 restores critical protections of the 1965 Voting Rights Act that were stripped by one of the most misguided decisions of the Supreme Court in modern history. As we mark the one-year anniversary of this important measure, we must redouble our efforts to break the Republican blockade Mitch McConnell is leading in the Senate and sign this important piece of legislation into law, along with H.R. 1, which would further protect and expand voting rights. Working with Congress, this task should be one of President-elect Biden’s most important “Day One” priorities.
