“Redistricting is the next fight in the battle to protect our democracy. Today’s release of apportionment data underscores the need for every state across the country to buckle down in preparation for a fair and transparent redistricting process. Right now, Republicans across the country are attempting a coordinated nationwide power grab to keep the deck stacked for corporate special interests and big money donors and against people, including by gerrymandering the maps to keep control. It’s not what the American people want.
“Passing the For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) would counteract the Republican Party’s strategy to draw illegitimate maps to try to take the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 and years to come. It would help to draw fair maps that reflect the interests of districts and allow voters to choose their representatives. Bad maps are bad for democracy, and we’re committed to fighting back against any partisan, dark money fueled effort to rig the system against the American people.”
