End Citizens United // Let America Vote Statement on Georgia Senate Voter Suppression Bill

Mar 09, 2021

End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Georgia State Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 241, a piece of legislation that would repeal no-excuse absentee voting among other major election changes.

“There is no doubt that this bill that Republicans have forced through the state Senate is designed to make it harder for many voters, especially communities of color, who often support Democrats, to cast their ballot. It says a lot about the lack of faith they have in their own party’s ideas and the lack of regard they have for democracy that they would ram through this discriminatory bill. Their actions only make it more necessary and urgent that the U.S. Senate stop this Republican power grab by passing the For the People Act (S. 1), which the House of Representatives passed earlier this month.

“S. 1 would protect the right to vote, ensure that we have accurate, secure, accessible elections, and stop these egregious voter suppression provisions from disenfranchising Georgia voters. In November, Georgia voters elected Senators Warnock and Ossoff, who campaigned vigorously on the For the People Act. It is essential that it become law.”
