End Citizens United // Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the retirement of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer:
“Justice Breyer has had an extraordinary career. He’s consistently been on the side of the American people, standing up against the disastrous Citizens United and Shelby v. Holder decisions, protecting the freedom to vote, and defending Americans’ access to healthcare. We thank him for his service on the Court and his lifelong commitment to public service.
“With an opening on the Supreme Court, we urge President Biden to appoint a nominee who will similarly ensure that every American can make their voice heard at the ballot box and fight back against the flood of corporate and dark money corrupting our elections. The Justice who follows Stephen Breyer on the Court can be the first step in reshaping the Court, which has been captured by radical billionaire donors and corporate special interests. Instead it should ensure that our democracy is on the side of the American people on the issues that matter most to them, like protecting workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and civil rights; preventing gun violence; recovering from the pandemic; and combating climate change.”
