End Citizens United Action Fund and Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement on the Phase 3 COVID-19 Package:
“It is as depressing as it is predictable that the Senate Republican proposal woefully underfunds election preparedness and puts bailouts for corporate special interests ahead of real help for suffering American workers in this time of national crisis.
“This package would give President Trump and Secretary Mnuchin broad authority to bail out any company they want and keep the details from the American people for half a year. If President Trump is bailing out Wall Street or even his own company, the American people should know in real time, not after the election. And that’s just the beginning.
“The Republican Senate must also give every state the funding necessary to ensure that every American has access to an extended early in-person voting period, no-excuse absentee voting-by-mail, and expanded voter registration options. Furthermore, we must prohibit polling place adjustments that disproportionately impact vulnerable populations such as people of color, limited-English proficient citizens, and students, and provide adequate voter education about these important changes.
“Republicans are attempting to put Wall Street before Main Street and undermine the integrity of our elections. Democrats cannot let them get away with it.”
