End Citizens United // Let America Vote President Tiffany Muller released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s speech on voting rights in Philadelphia this afternoon:
“President Biden’s eloquent, fiery speech about the right to vote must be followed by action–including using the full power of his presidency to get the For the People Act signed into law, which he called a ‘national imperative.’
“In the face of dangerous, anti-voter proposals nationwide and a right-wing Supreme Court willing to weaken protections for voting rights, the stakes of this moment could not be higher. As Texas Democrats showed with their walkout this week, the GOP’s assault on voting rights demands immediate action.
“With Republicans and their dark-money allies bent on doing everything they can to restrict the vote, inaction is not an option. Executive action is important, but we cannot allow procedure to stand in the way of the legislative process to protect Americans’ fundamental freedom to vote. The future of our democracy is at stake and Congress and the administration must meet the moment and do what is necessary for our nation and for the American people.”
