“We thank Senator Manchin for taking a serious, thoughtful approach to the For the People Act. We recognize, as the former West Virginia Secretary of State, he knows how important it is to protect free and fair elections and reduce the influence of money in politics in America, and he has a record of supporting the proposals in this bill, which have broad bipartisan support across the county.
“With a partisan assault on voting rights across the country backed by dark money, it is urgent that we act to protect every American’s freedom and right to vote and ensure that government is accountable to the people, not just corporate special interests and mega donors. That’s the only way we will be able to address the issues confronting families across the country, like health care and prescription drug costs and ensuring the economy works for everyone.
